The term ‘In-vitro fertilization’ (IVF) or ‘test-tube baby’ is an ART (Assisted Reproductive Technique) procedure to fertilize eggs with sperm outside the human body. This procedure can be opted by couples where either of the partner has infertility problem.
At Adiva, we have defined the clinical protocols, where we begin the process by detailed counseling & investigation session. In the counseling session, we share complete information about the treatment and the stages followed in the IVF. Investigation session determines the reproductive health of the couple based on the line of treatment which is provided.
A broader outline is given below:
- Fertility drugs help you produce plenty of eggs.
- Egg retrieval process, which is undertaken, is a daycare procedure.
- The eggs are fertilized with the semen, outside the womb, in a laboratory. The embryos are formed within a few days.
- The embryos are then placed in your uterus with the hope that one or more will implant and become a successful pregnancy.
Other Assisted Reproductive Techniques
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): It is a form of assisted conception. During IUI, your infertility specialist will place washed and processed sperm into your uterus, near to your egg at the time of ovulation. You will also be given some fertility drugs to increase your probability of conceiving.
Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection technique can be used by a couple when the routine IVF procedure is unyielding.
In the standard IVF procedure, many sperms are positioned together with an egg, hoping that at least one of the sperms will penetrate and fertilize it. However in ICSI, the embryologist takes a single sperm and injects it directly into an egg.
ICSI Procedure
ICSIcomes under the IVF treatment and it is a lab procedure, not very different from the IVF. In the initial phase, the female is given certain ovarian stimulating drugs and concurrently, many blood tests and ultrasounds are performed. Once it is established that appropriate sized follicles have grown, the eggs are retrieved from the ovaries with the help of a super sophisticated ultrasound-guided needle. At the same time, the male partner will provide his sperm sample (a frozen sperm sample can also be used).
Once the eggs are isolated, the embryologist puts the eggs in a culture media, now with the help of a small needle and a microscope, one single sperm is injected into the egg.
If fertilization is successful, and the embryos are viable, an embryo or two will be relocated to a female’s uterus, by means of a catheter placed through the cervix, a few days after the retrieval.
Needless to say, throughout the process our trained staff will address your every concern, be by your side, and lend you every support to make it a success.
Surrogacy is when a woman carries a baby for a couple who have problem in conceiving or carrying a child themselves. It should never be forgotten that this is an amazing act of giving on the part of the surrogate mother and her family.
