How to Choose the Right Clinic for Orthopedic Care in Poland
Ensure a safe and highly successful joint surgery by vetting your hospital thoroughly. Use this 5-step checklist to select the optimal Polish orthopedic facility.
Verify Surgeon Credentials
Ensure your primary surgeon is board-certified by the Polish Chamber of Physicians and holds memberships in European orthopedic societies. Surgeons with high-volume experience in total joint replacements consistently deliver the best outcomes.
Inquire About Implant Brands
Confirm that the clinic uses globally recognized prosthetic brands. This is critical because if you ever need an adjustment or revision years down the line in your home country, your local doctors will be familiar with the hardware.
Check the Rehabilitation Protocol
Joint surgery is only half the battle; intensive physical therapy is the rest. Ask if your surgical package includes daily, in-house physiotherapy during your hospital stay to ensure you are mobilizing the joint immediately after the procedure.
Ask About Minimally Invasive Techniques
Opt for clinics that specialize in muscle-sparing approaches or computer-assisted navigation. These advanced techniques lead to less blood loss, significantly reduced pain, and a much faster return to independent walking.
Utilize a Verified Facilitator
Avoid language barriers and logistical stress by booking through PlacidWay. We ensure you are matched only with JCI or ISO-accredited Polish hospitals that have a proven track record of successfully treating international patients.
Your Timeline for Orthopedic Care in Poland
Understanding the process alleviates the anxiety of traveling abroad for surgery. Here is what to expect from your initial inquiry to taking your first pain-free steps.
Step 1: Virtual Consultation & X-Ray Review
Submit your recent X-rays or MRIs to the Polish orthopedic team via PlacidWay. The specialists will assess the severity of your cartilage deterioration and design a customized surgical plan, providing a transparent, all-inclusive quote.
Step 2: Arrival & Comprehensive Pre-Op Testing
Upon arriving in Poland, you will be escorted to the clinic for a rigorous physical examination. This includes blood tests, an ECG, and meetings with the anesthesiologist and lead surgeon to ensure you are fully prepared for the intervention.
Step 3: The Surgical Procedure
The operation takes place in an advanced EU-standard operating theater. Depending on the complexity, a joint replacement takes approximately 1 to 2 hours, usually performed under spinal anesthesia so you remain comfortable but groggy.
Step 4: Hospitalization & Immediate Mobilization
You will remain in the hospital for 3 to 5 days. Crucially, within 24 hours of waking up, dedicated physiotherapists will assist you in standing and moving the joint to prevent stiffness, reduce swelling, and promote healthy blood flow.
Step 5: Discharge & Supervised Return Home
Once you can safely walk with crutches, navigate stairs, and manage your comfort levels, the surgeon will clear you for travel. You will return home armed with comprehensive medical files and a long-term physical therapy protocol.

What Patients Say About Orthopedic Care in Poland
Read authentic accounts from international patients who chose our verified network of Polish clinics to resolve their chronic joint pain and regain their mobility.
"I was looking at a two-year waitlist through the NHS just to get a consultation for my knee deterioration. It was unacceptable. Traveling to Poland was the best decision I ever made. The orthopedic hospital in Warsaw was stunningly modern, the English-speaking staff made me feel entirely at ease, and I was scheduled for surgery in just three weeks. Now, I am walking completely pain-free."
"The out-of-pocket quote for a partial knee replacement in the states was going to drain our savings. Finding a specialized clinic in Krakow saved us over $20,000, even after booking premium flights and a lovely hotel for recovery. The surgical precision and the daily physiotherapy I received in the hospital were beyond anything I expected. I cannot recommend Polish orthopedic care enough."

DO NOT USE THE KCM CLINIC JELANIA GORA my surgery 09/25 I like so many UK and North American patients I met whilst at KCM Jelena Gora suffered terribly both pre and post operation. My journey:- I was in a desperate state following issues with my spine ( L4/L5/S1 I chose this clinic based on price. I was advised by the UK NHS that a PLIF ( Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion ) was needed , however after signing on the dotted line and paying my deposit. However one week before I flew to Poland I had a call to say the surgeon had revisited my MRI and said they now wanted to do a DIAM ( Dynamic Stabilisation ) . I was nervous and asked to speak to the surgeon, I spoke to a person who was told was the Spinal Surgeon Coordinator, who talked confidently and that the DIAM was for me, more up to date, less invasive, however I still had the option on my arrival in Poland once the new MRI was studied. On my arrival at the clinic, TuesdayI was sent to various depot for pre op tests, bizarrely, I had to wait at least 2 hours at each dept sat in lonely corridors, with no one checking my welfare, no apologies for the long waits, I was nil by mouth from 10pm the night before, this went on from 7am until 4.30 pm. There was not even WIFI reception to pass any boredom. The whole place was just chaos behind the scenes, no timelines/diaries to follow I was asked to return the following day, despite on time I had to wait another two hours for the surgeon to confirm I was fit and able for the surgery on Thursday. However, on leaving I was told my surgery was to be cancelled until Friday afternoon due to an overspill on Wednesday. I then received a call at 8pm Thursday in my hotel to say can I immediately come to the hospital as I was now to be operated at 9am Friday. More unorganisation when I thought it could not get worse. Friday I was operated on at about 1pm. I came around about 4pm and asked for some food as NIL by mouth. From the previous night, I was brought a pot of yogurt only, on asking for something more substantial I was told there was nothing as the canteen had not prepared anything as they were not aware I was in the place. I ended up ordering a KFC via UBEREATS strained by a non English speaking night nurse. Saturday at 7am I was told I had to leave the hospital at 9am via a taxi and to collect my own pain killers from the chemist myself. I queried the discharge as I had not had surgery no more 12 hours previously, only to be told I had no option as I was the only one in the hospital and it closed at midday Saturday. At that stage I had only walked 4 steps to the bathroom , literally kicked out of the hospital after major spinal surgery, again just more unorganised chaos. On my return to the UK, I had improvements for about 2 months and then started deteriorating quickly. I endeavoured to liaise with surgeon physio, I had Video calls set up but no one from the Polish side turned up. This happened approximately 20 times, just bizarre. My international coordinator was just embarrassed and helpless. So much so I was asked to put a letter of complaint, which I did on 26/10, to this day 02/26 I still have not had a response. There only response was asking me to fly back out to Poland at my own expense for flights/hotels/ new MRI scans and further surgery if required following my failed one. Any normal business would endeavour to put any wrongs right, but not KCM. I have chased up fortnightly since the day I sent only to be told excuses such holidays, a higher senior is dealing with it, the weather were all causing issues, now 5 months later nobody responds and emails/calls/WhatApp messages just get ignored. 5 months later should be sufficient just for some answers. I have done everything that has been asked of me but I’ve realised from other feedbacks, they just take your money and if problems occur they just bury their heads and ignore you with absolutely no care for your well being whatsoever. It’s just so disappointing after being so upbeat on my spine issues being resolved. The company is just a money making racket and should be struck off any medical agencies. I hope this helps anyone and that nobody goes through what I have been best pre and post operation."
