Bunion Removal

A bunion is a bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe. It forms a union with a foot bone known as the first metatarsal. The big toe points more towards the second toe to cause a bunion. In fact, a bunion is a foot deformity that consists of soft tissue and bone.

As a matter of fact, bunions can be very painful in some patients. The primary cause of getting a bunion is wearing shoes that are too small or too narrow in the toe area. Women are more likely to develop bunions than men due to the pressure-response effect of their shoes.

Bunion removal, also known as a bunionectomy, bunion surgery, or hallux valgus correction is a surgical procedure to correct the deformed area of the foot near the big toe. It is done when the nonsurgical treatment methods are not adequate to relieve the pain.
