The impressive new Presidential Suite at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz boasts a smokers’ lounge, a Swarovski crystal ceiling and gold dust in the wallpaper
The recently completed Presidential Suite at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz leaves nothing to be desired. The elegant, 300 square metre residence situated on the fifth floor of the Spa Suites building has two bedrooms, a spacious living room, a smokers’ lounge, a wine cabinet and a kitchen. From four balconies, luxury travelers can enjoy the views of the vineyards of the Bündner Herrschaft and gaze out over the Rhine Valley.
High-profile interior designer Claudio Carbone has wonderfully incorporated customised ceiling lights and standard lamps made of Venetian Murano glass or decorated with Swarovski stones, marble floors with elaborate inlay work and rosewood furniture. Upon request, the Presidential Suite can be extended into the Presidential Floor, which spans 600 square metres and has a total of six bedrooms, each with its own separate bathroom, living area and balcony. The new suite of Europe’s Leading Wellbeing & Medical Health Resort is available from CHF 5,500 to CHF 8,000 (around EUR 4,500 to EUR 6,600) per night and the Presidential Floor from CHF 12,000 to CHF 16,000 (around EUR 9,900 to EUR 13,200). It can be booked at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.
Interior designer Claudio Carbone designed all of the furniture for the luxury suite. He describes his latest showpiece as follows: «Here, the guest is truly able to feel the difference – each room offers a unique new experience for the senses.» He considers impeccable craftsmanship and using only the very finest materials to be crucial to his work.
The floor-to-ceiling windows also allow the surrounding landscape to itself become a further feature of the space. In the entrance area, the guest is met by an elaborate beige Bianco Perlino marble intarsia floor and more than 30,000 glass crystals. Extravagant details, such as laser-engraved glass panels, lacquered rosewood panelling and large mother-of-pearl inlays in the dining table add the finishing touches to the exclusive interior.
Carbone deliberately uses recurring stylistic elements, such as the Venetian Murano glass baubles that seem to float above the table. The light they cast reminds guests of the thermal water that is central to the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. In the dressing room, a chair upholstered with salmon leather is positioned below a Swarovski crystal ceiling, while the bathroom sparkles with the gold dust in the wallpaper. The living room has an adjoining smokers’ lounge with a humidor and a temperate wine cabinet which is kept stocked by the team of six butlers working under Head Butler Andreas Karrasch.
The butler service is included in the price of the suite. The bedrooms are decorated with ray leather inlay work, chairs upholstered with salmon leather and silk carpets. The two bathrooms featuring Bianco Perlino marble are wonderful wellness oases equipped with a sauna, a freestanding whirlpool bathtub and a steam bath. As in all rooms at the Spa Suites building, thermal water – which promotes health and wellbeing – flows from the taps. The high-tech equipment such as the Bang & Olufsen televisions and music system, the discreetly positioned screens and the lighting system and the blinds are all controlled via iPad.

The architect
Claudio Carbone, born 1966, is successful throughout Europe with his designs for five-star hotels and luxury living spaces. His focus is on light and colour. He aims to make each space an experience for the senses, and to create an atmosphere in which people feel comfortable. Claudio Carbone and his team have been creating and constructing spaces for 14 years – and not just for the premium hotel and catering industry.
His talent was immediately apparent when he was working as an apprentice carpenter. Claudio Carbone has received many awards. For him, interior design has more to do with emotions and feelings than with expertise or design concepts. Thanks to his talent, charisma and excellence, Claudio Carbone is one of the most sought-after designers in Europe. He has been working with the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz since 2005. Before designing the Presidential Suite, he was responsible for the new Spa Suites and the Penthouse, as well as for other projects for the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.
