Face Lift Overview

The face lift surgery removes wrinkles and restores the natural shape of the patient's facial features. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.

Pre-Operative Care

• The patient should avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as aspirin, smoking, taking supplements that affect blood clotting, such as garlic and fish oil, starting at least 2 weeks before the surgery.
• The patients should avoid herbs such as Evening Primrose, Vitamin E, foods containing high amounts of monosodium glutamate, garlic, soya products. Patients need to inform the doctor and avoid the foods mentioned earlier for 3-5 days before undergoing the surgery.
• Preoperative fasting for about 6 hours.
• Prepared hair wash before surgery in order to prevent infection.
• The patient should avoid smoking and drinking 2 weeks before surgery.
• The patient should be prepared to be away from home for about 7-10 days for full facelift and 5-7 days for partial part.
• The patient should bring a family member, friend, accompanying person on the day of surgery.
• The patient should inform the doctor about his/her  medical conditions (for instance diabetes, heart disease and drug allergies such as Penicillin).
• Those with certain types of heart disease who need drugs such as aspirin should consult a doctor before the surgery
• Those taking Coumadin to prevent clotting of the veins in the legs or
• in people with heart valve leakage should consult a doctor and stop taking before surgery.
• The procedure can't be undergone by those who use a pacemaker for the heart.
• Metal jewellery needs to be removed.
• Two weeks after surgery, dark blood and swelling will occur around the neck.
• Scars caused by the surgery will be behind the ears and hairline.

Post-Operative Care

• Patients should apply Cold Compress 4 times a day to reduce the swelling in the first period of recovery.
• Patients should lie down with their head elevated (high pillow) so that blood flows to the heart area. Swelling will subside faster.
• The bandage will be removed the next day after the surgery.
• The patient should come back 4 days after the surgery to remove the stitches around the ear area.
• A week after the surgery, the patient should come back again to loosen the stitch on the head to make it more comfortable for the wound.
• 10 Days after the surgery, the patient is required to come back to remove all the stitches and for the follow up. However, if the incision is still tight, the patient might have to remove the stitches 14 days after the surgery.
• After removing all the stitches, the patients are recommended to apply ointment for reducing scar 2 times per day to prevent keloid.
• Patients should take all the medication prescribed and follow all guidance provided by the doctor.
• No alcohol drinks and smoking.
• If there is any bleeding or any abnormal condition, patients should contact the doctor immediately.
