SADI-S (Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy) is a bariatric surgery designed to promote weight loss and improve metabolic conditions, such as type 2 diabetes. It combines two main components: sleeve gastrectomy and a single intestinal bypass, providing both restrictive and malabsorptive effects.

1. Sleeve Gastrectomy: The first part of the surgery involves removing a large portion of the stomach, leaving a small, tube-shaped stomach (sleeve). This limits the amount of food a patient can eat and helps control hunger, as the stomach produces fewer hunger-stimulating hormones (like ghrelin).

2. Single Anastomosis Bypass: After the sleeve is created, the surgeon reroutes part of the small intestine by connecting the stomach directly to a lower section of the small intestine (ileum), bypassing the duodenum and part of the jejunum. Unlike traditional bypass surgeries, which involve two connections (anastomoses), SADI-S involves only one connection, making the procedure simpler and potentially lowering the risk of complications.

It's considered a newer, less invasive option with significant weight loss potential and metabolic benefits, but it requires ongoing dietary management and regular medical follow-ups.
