• Most widely used transplants

• Less preferred to umbilical cord as they may carry dormant viruses
• MSC population in scarce
• Significant drop in proliferative capacity with age

Blood Stream

• Stem Cells are collected by ‘apheresis’ with cell separator
• Generally for cell use (autologous)
• Lengthy procedure and low cell yield.
• Less plastic so homing and engraftment is a problem

Adult Tissue

• Stem cells can be collected from skin/ cornea/ fat/ teeth/ small intestine/ liver

Dr. Suman Gupta, MBBS, MS (General Surgery) is a Sr. consultant in Laparoscopic & General Surgery. He is amongst the pioneers to start & teach Laproscopic Surgery in India since 1992. Dr. Suman Gupta has successfully done 7000 cases of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Hernia, Appendix & others single handedly. He has active interest in Stem Cell Treatment. He is one of those who started Stapled Haemrhoidectomy in India. He has done 100 cases of Recanalisation of VAS with Four Flap Method technique and 25 cases of Auto Transfusion in patients undergoing planned surgery with Hemodilution technique. He conducted teaching workshops on Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Endoscopic Surgery and holds 22yrs of experience in Surgery.
