Quality Measures
Clinical outcomes are an increasing vital indicator of a world-class healthcare system.
At NHG, our indicators are on par, if not better, than international standards. Besides allowing for continual improvement in treatments, it also enables patients to make informed choices about the hospitals they choose to go for their treatment.
Medical Research
Research plays an important role at National Healthcare Group. We believe that biomedical and clinical research excellence is vital in maintaining NHG’s position as a leader at the cutting-edge of medical technology and expertise. Remarkable advances have emerged from both laboratory studies and the investigations of new therapies or medicines in the clinical phase.
Through research, we bring to our patients, as safely and quickly as possible, treatments on the forefront of responsible medicine. These investigations make it possible for the medical professionals of NHG to offer patients more options for life-saving care and improved health than ever before.
Our medical professionals are trained in the best centers around the world. They are skilled in many specialties and subspecialties. Our dedicated research staff and surgeons, most of whom are on the Faculty of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), have made extraordinary contributions. NHG is in the forefront of medical research and works closely with NUS to facilitate research and mobilize resources.
Clinical research is an essential part of clinical practice. There are about 800 ongoing research projects in NHG, of which approximately 50% of our doctors are involved in.
Technological Breakthroughs
Technology has the potential to transform and bring healthcare to the next level.
NHG operates in a dialectical environment of increased medical knowledge, rapid innovation, rising costs, intense competition, high expectations of increasingly well-informed patients and an ageing population. To provide faster, better, cheaper and safer care for our patients, we utilise technology to help us. Following are some of our technological breakthroughs.
2006-Teleradiology:
A filmless technology where images such as x-rays are taken, stored and read digitally, the key advantage to this technology is shorter waiting times for patients for their results. It also facilitates seamless transfer of patient information between care providers, leading to improved care as clinicians now have quick and accurate access to essential medical information to better customize treatment to meet each patient’s unique needs.
2005-Laboratory Information System:
This system enables laboratory results to be reported and retrieved electronically, across NHG cluster. With automation and this information system, the entire laboratory process, from sample collection, analysis to result reporting, is fully integrated and more efficient.
2005-Project Naut1cus:
This patient administration system gives a holistic view of the patient regardless of where or when he has sought care within NHG. It translates into a single master record for treatment received, medication, tests done, allergies, preferences, appointment scheduling, registration, financial counseling, inpatient admission, discharge, billing and payment from appointment scheduling, inpatient admission, treatment and billing for every patient.Â
