Smile Makeover Design is a technique used in our practice whenever a patient is evaluated for any type of aesthetic enhancement to their teeth that involves more than one or two teeth. Since the main focus of our practice is cosmetic dentistry, patients normally come to our office seeking a better-looking smile.  

Are your teeth crooked, chipped, cracked, dull, discoloured or full of gaps? Are they too large? Are they too small? Any of these imperfections will have a drastic impact on your smile. An attractive person may lose their appeal with less then perfect teeth.  

How long can it take for a complete smile makeover ?
This depends on the level of treatment required, for example, average "complicated" cases which include crowns, direct veneers and numerous inlays have been performed in 10 days (in some cases attending 2 appointments per day) achieving excellent results, a case which is normally performed in 3-4 months in other countries.

"Medium" cases which include veneers and change of silver fillings for white restorations have been performed in 1 week.

Full mouth smile makeover veneers can be performed in 4 days.

Porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front side of damaged, discoloured, or misshaped teeth. One of the most successful treatments available in dentistry, porcelain veneers are extremely thin and, at the same time, extremely strong.   

This procedure has several advantages over other tooth restoration procedures. Porcelain is an extremely durable material with a color, translucence and texture that is similar to tooth enamel. It is not susceptible to decay and resists staining while maintaining a natural appearance. A porcelain veneer may be as thin as 0.5 mm.  

There's no reason to put up with gaps in your teeth or with teeth that are stained, badly shaped or crooked, being embarrassed to smile, even if you want to. Where will the procedure be performed, how long will it take and how much pain is there ?
Porcelain veneers usually require at least two appointments to be completed. The length of time of each appointment will depend on the condition of your teeth and on how many veneers you are having. The procedure is with a local anesthetic, is pain-free and performed at our office.

What can I expect after porcelain veneers ?
Once your veneers are permanently placed, they will feel like your natural teeth, and you can use them just as you would your regular teeth. To protect your veneers from chipping, avoid biting down into hard substances, for example, ice-cubes. Avoid bad habits like chewing on fingernails, pencils, or paperclips and clenching or grinding your teeth. You should brush regularly. Regular flossing is also important.

The Hygienist will make impressions of your teeth to fabricate a mouth guard appliance for you. The mouth guard is custom made for your mouth and is lightweight so that it can be worn comfortably while you are awake or sleeping. The mouth guard is so thin that you should even be able to talk and work while wearing it. Along with the mouth guard, you'll receive the bleaching materials. We will give you instructions on how to wear the mouth guard. Don't worry, it's easy!

How long does it last?
Lightness should last from one to five years, depending on your personal habits such as smoking and drinking coffee and tea. At this point you may choose to get a 'touch-up'. The retreatment time is also much shorter than the original treatment time.

What causes discoloration of teeth?
There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc. Those sains resist cleaning and can be safely bleached away, giving your teeth a brighter appearance. During the formation of teeth, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.

The Procedure
The dentist applies the proprietary Zoom Whitening Gel directly to your teeth, (while you view a DVD or a cable TV show of your choosing with our in-chair entertainment system). Zoom is activated by a specially designed lamp. Teeth typically become at least six to eight shades whiter, sometimes more. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. What is a Dental Crown?
When the entire surface of the tooth is a problem, but the root system is intact, a crown might be just what is needed.
