The University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Northern Germany. Almost all illnesses are treated in the 80 clinics and institutes of the center.

Apart from medical care, the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf also carries out medical science research and is a teaching hospital, where physicians and other health care professionals are trained. Many doctors, scientists and students visit and work in our clinics and laboratories as guests.

The team International Office is a department of the UKE. The International Office is the "headquarter" for the complete administration and organization of international patients in the UKE and for the coordination with clinical departments and clinical directors.

The UKE's medical treatment, science and research have an excellent international reputation. As a result, patients from Germany and from countries all over the world come to us to undergo medical treatment. Our patients can be sure of receiving state-of-the-art medical treatment, taking into account the latest knowledge and developments in medicine. Our attention is centred on our patients, providing them with the highest quality medical treatment, research and medical science.

UKE employees are dedicated to doing an excellent job. Patients with seldom and complex diseases can visit our highly specialised outpatient clinics. There they can join clinical trials. Results of clinical trials are shared on a national and international basis. So it is easier, even for seldom diseases, to transfer results directly into the everyday work in the clinical departments. Precious experiences in the work with patients can be discussed, documented and analysed worldwide. Students of the medical faculty can join the clinical everyday life very early, for instance in bedside-teaching courses. This way, they get excellent practical experience. Specializations of young doctors, for instance in order to become a surgeon, are also performed at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.

International Patients
The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf has a long tradition in medical treatment of international patients. For more than 15 years international patients have been coming from all over the world to get medical treatment from famous specialists, professors and doctors of the UKE. Many patients come on a regular basis, for instance after an organ transplantation.

The International Office coordinates all aspects of international patients' medical care, paying special attention to their personal, cultural and travel-related needs. Doctors, nurses and administrative staff try to do everything in order to make the patient’s stay as comfortable as possible.

Medical quality is at the same high level for all patients, it does not matter where they come from and which insurance status they have. It is based on a complex process of quality management. As a result, the highest standards in medical treatment, administrative procedures, research, science and education and in customer-/patient orientation are achieved.
