Jennifer & Smith: A Journey of Hope and Perseverance with IVF in Mexico City
Jennifer & Smith IVF Journey: Triumph and Hope in Mexico City
My husband, Smith, and I were married in 2016. I was a graphic designer in San Leandro, California, and Smith ran his own tech startup. Life was busy and full of excitement as we balanced our careers and love for adventure.
We often traveled, explored new places, and enjoyed the vibrant community in San Leandro. Growing up in a bustling city, I was accustomed to the fast-paced lifestyle, but I also dreamed of starting a family with Smith. After a few years of marriage, we decided it was time to expand our family.
In the summer of 2019, we felt ready to start trying to conceive. We tried on our own for a year, but month after month, we were met with disappointment as negative pregnancy tests piled up. It was emotionally draining, and we knew we needed professional help.
"Each negative test felt like a setback," Smith said. "But we were determined to keep going."
I had heard about the success of fertility treatments from friends, so we decided to seek help from a fertility specialist. We found Ingenes Mexico City Clinic with the help of PlacidWay Medical Tourism, renowned for its advanced treatments and excellent patient care.
The clinic’s reputation and affordable treatment options made it an ideal choice. The cost of treatment in Mexico was significantly lower which was around $9000 than in the United States where the cost was much higher and around $25,000, and we felt it was worth exploring.
We contacted the clinic and met Dr. Claudia Guadalupe Castillo Martinez. She was incredibly understanding and compassionate. Dr. Castillo explained the various treatment options available to us. We were particularly interested in in vitro fertilization (IVF) due to its higher success rates.
"Jennifer and Smith had been through a lot," Dr. Castillo remarked. "Our goal was to provide them with the best care and support possible."
In December of 2020, we started our first round of IVF. The process was both physically and emotionally challenging. The daily hormone injections, frequent clinic visits, and the anticipation of each step were overwhelming at times. However, the support from Dr. Castillo and the staff at Ingenes made the journey manageable.
"Their encouragement kept us going," I recalled. "We knew we were in good hands."
Our first egg retrieval yielded 12 eggs, 8 of which fertilized successfully. Out of those, 3 embryos made it to the 5-day blastocyst stage. We decided to proceed with genetic testing to ensure the health of our embryos. The results showed that 2 of the embryos were viable and free from any genetic conditions.
In March 2021, we prepared for our first embryo transfer. Unfortunately, the transfer did not result in a pregnancy. It was a crushing blow, and we struggled to cope with the disappointment. Dr. Castillo provided us with guidance and reassurance.
We took a short break to recover emotionally and physically before attempting another transfer. By June 2021, we were ready for our second transfer. This time, we felt a mix of hope and apprehension. We tried to stay positive and trust in the process.
On July 10, 2021, we received the news we had been praying for – our second transfer was successful! We were overjoyed and cautiously optimistic. The following weeks were filled with anxiety as we awaited each ultrasound and test, but everything progressed smoothly.
Our beautiful baby girl, Olivia, was born on April 3, 2022. Her arrival was a testament to our perseverance, the expertise of Dr. Castillo, and the unwavering support from our family and friends.
Seeing Olivia for the first time was surreal," Smith said. "She was worth every challenge we faced."
Looking back, I realize how strong we were to endure the challenges of infertility. The journey taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of support. Smith and I are forever grateful to Dr. Castillo and the team at Ingenes Mexico City Clinic for helping us achieve our dream of becoming parents.
To anyone facing infertility, my advice is to stay hopeful and seek the right support. Trust your medical team, lean on your loved ones, and take care of yourself. Infertility treatments can be overwhelming, but with perseverance and the right care, you can achieve your dream.
"Keep pushing forward," Smith advised. "No matter how tough it gets."
Our story is one of hope and determination, and we hope it inspires others on their journey to parenthood.
