Enjoy Your Visit with Confidence and Safety in Tijuana
With all the recent news about the violence in Mexico, many medical travelers are thinking twice about venturing south of the border. However, that's like saying that no country is safe. Yes, there are good and bad elements in every country. There are areas in every country that no foreigner should venture into. That goes for the United States, Great Britain, Australia, and Mexico, just to name a few.
Unfortunately, many newscasts focus only on the violence and the bad rather than the safety and the good aspects of Mexico, and most specifically Tijuana. Located just south of the California border beneath San Diego, Tijuana has long provided easy entry into Mexico by North Americans living in the Southwest.
If you're a resident of cities in California such as Los Angeles or New York, you realize that there are areas to stay away from, but that doesn't stop you from visiting either city. The same goes for Tijuana and other cities in Mexico.
When it comes to medical travel, we urge travelers to use common sense when determining their travel plans. Unfortunately, every city in the world deals with some level of violence and crime. To be totally honest and realistic, there is probably not one place in the world where you could move and be guaranteed of 100% safety, and it doesn't matter whether we're talking about a rural town in Montana or the middle of the savanna in South Africa.
Keeping Safe
Tijuana, Mexico offers a wide range of vacation and medical travel venues to not only North American and Canadian but international travelers. Tijuana facilities offering treatments in stem cell therapies and technologies, fertility, orthopedic care and cosmetic and plastic surgery are some of the best in the world.
ProgenCell is a stem cell treatment center located in Tijuana, with the clientele of patients from around the world. ProgenCell wants every patient to feel safe and comfortable when visiting their facilities.
For this reason, ProgenCell, along with many other clinics, outpatient treatment centers and hospitals in Mexico, provide guidelines for travelers entering the country, but such guidelines offer common sense that can be applied to tourists visiting any country in the world, from Mexico to Croatia to Thailand and beyond.
The bottom line - use common sense when traveling. The following list contains suggestions for making your trip to Tijuana, or any foreign locale, safer.
• Obviously, don't bring or try to transport or purchase any type of weapon when entering into or inside Mexico
• Obviously, don't carry, sell or transport drugs when entering or inside Mexico. (Check all prescription medications with customs officers, supplying documentation by the prescribing doctor)
• Avoid roaming around unfamiliar areas by foot. Use taxis from border crossings, restaurants or hotels to and from your destinations
• Whenever possible, travel with a companion
• Stay away from bars and nightclubs
• Avoid roaming through isolated, poor or dark neighborhoods
• Whenever possible, do your sightseeing and shopping during daylight hours
In addition to the previous recommendations, use common safety sense. Don't carry your passport with you, but carry a copy of it on your person. Leave your passport in a safe at your hotel. Always stay alert to what's happening around you, and know and understand the laws of Mexico or any other country you're visiting.
Leave the fancy jewels, bobbles and watches at home. Dress comfortably and avoid flashing money, credit cards or other valuables, regardless of where you travel. Know the location of your nearest Consulate or Embassy, and let relatives know where you're going as well as provide them with a copy of your itinerary.
It doesn't matter whether you're visiting Istanbul, New York City, Beijing or Tijuana - be a smart traveler and enjoy your stay.
