Born in March 13th, 1954, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, made the Middle and High School in Saint Ignacio Catholic School, R.J. Graduated in Medicine in Gama Filho University/RJ in 1977, made specialization in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery in Bonsucesso General Hospital (Federal Hospital/RJ) under the guidance of Dr. Sammy Passy, Dr’s Pitanguy first assistant, from 1978 to 1980.

He was since the early years specialized in Leprosy Reconstructive Surgery, working since 1979 in the Curupaiti State Hospital (a former leprosy-colony) as Head of the Plastic Surgery Service, from 1979 to 1988, when assumed the General Direction of the Institute. From May, 1988 to March, 1995 remained as General Director of the Hospital.
