BIO

Dr. Amar is a board certified minimal access, metabolic & bariatric surgeon (laparoscopic, diabetes and obesity surgeon). He is the first surgeon from Andhra Pradesh to successfully complete two year National Board fellowship in minimal access surgery - FNB (Minimal Access Surgery). He received structured training in laparoscopic, metabolic and bariatric surgery at GEM hospital & research institute, Coimbatore. He studied MBBS and MS (General Surgery) at Kurnool Medical College. Dr. Amar is a member of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh - MRCSEd since 2005. He is a diplomate of National Board since 2006. He is a member of Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society of India – OSSI. He is a fellow of association of minimal access surgeons of India – FMAS. He is associated with us as a consultant minimal access, metabolic & bariatric surgeon since Aug 2012. 

Dr. Amar has enormous experience in laparoscopic bariatric surgeries for morbid obesity, laparoscopic metabolic surgeries for type 2 diabetes, laparo endoscopic single site surgeries (LESS), advanced laparoscopic gastroenterological surgeries and other advanced 

laparoscopic surgeries. 

He has keen interest in medical research and published several articles in national and international journals. He presented papers in several national and international conferences. He regularly conducts continuing medical education programs in the field of metabolic & bariatric surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

​PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS: 

My prime area of professional practice is bariatric and metabolic surgery to treat obesity and its co-morbid medical conditions. Bariatric surgery is the only scientifically proven safe and effective method for permanent weight loss and it also cures co-morbid medical conditions in significant number of patients. There is a general lack of awareness about the physiology of obesity and the reasons behind failure of diet control, exercise, low calorie diet products and liposuction to achieve permanent weight loss. I am interested in educating physicians, patients, general public about healthy diet, regular physical exercise to prevent obesity and bariatric surgery to treat obesity. I am interested in further research into the reasons why patients achieve permanent weight loss after bariatric surgery. Based on this we can develop non surgical methods to treat obesity which is beneficial to several obese individuals who doesn't come into the category of bariatric surgery.
