About Prof. dr hab. n. med. Dariusz Patkowski
Prof. Dariusz Patkowski is the Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Urology at the Medical University of Wrocław and a former President of the Polish Society of Pediatric Surgeons. He is an internationally recognized expert in pediatric endoscopic surgery and has lectured at numerous international congresses and surgical training courses across Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. Notably, he is one of only two Polish surgeons invited to lecture and train at IRCAD in Strasbourg, France – the world’s most prestigious center for endoscopic surgery education.
He was the organizer and chairman of the 16th International Congress of the Polish Society of Pediatric Surgeons (Wrocław, 2015) and the 7th Congress of the European Society of Endoscopic Pediatric Surgeons (Wrocław, 2017).
Innovative Methods
Prof. Patkowski is the creator of the PIRS technique (Percutaneous Internal Ring Suturing), a groundbreaking method that has revolutionized the treatment of inguinal hernias worldwide.
He was the first surgeon in Poland to perform thoracoscopic anastomosis of an overgrown esophagus in a newborn and went on to develop his own method of internal traction that allows preservation of the native esophagus in severe cases of this defect.
He is considered one of the most experienced surgeons in the world in endoscopic esophageal surgery in newborns, having performed over 150 such procedures.
Additionally, he introduced an advanced technique for the treatment of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) at his medical center.

Additional Surgical Practice
In addition to pediatric surgery, Prof. Patkowski also performs sympathectomy – a surgical treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). This minimally invasive procedure interrupts the sympathetic nerve pathways responsible for overstimulation of the sweat glands, offering lasting relief and significantly improving patients’ comfort and quality of life.
